An online sports betting company, Betfair announced plans for a new Dublin office that will create upwards of 100 jobs. Last month, the company officially listed on the London Stock Exchange and now plans to open a new office where some of their operations teams will be relocated to next year.
To fill the additional posts needed to staff the new office, the company has initiated a recruitment process. To relocate to the new Dublin office, staff currently in place in the UK will be given the option. The number of London employees has not been announced, who will move to the Dublin office. Founded in 2000 by Andrew Black and Edward Wray, Betfair offers customers what is termed “person-to-person betting.” The process gives them the option to take bets in a more traditional role similar to that of a bookmaker or it lets customers place bets acting as a punter.
Over 600 engineers who maintain the sportsbook company’s betting exchanges, employs Betfair. From roughly 3 million plus customers, these global exchanges process in excess of 5 million transactions daily.
Betfair’s chief executive, David Yu, expresses optimism in the new Dublin office noting that Ireland is establishing itself as a prime location for online companies.
Concerning required fees, Betfair and the British Horseracing Authority were recently in dispute, but a company spokesperson has said that they are not leaving the UK and will continue paying the levy and adhere to all requirements.
John Szczerbinski of Team USA has the lead at the 2010 World Cup, after round 2 of the men’s qualifying stages.

Over three days of play, all competitors will have a total of 16 games. To finish up, on Thursday, the men will bowl six games to complete their 16. On Wednesday, the women bowled their 6-game round. The top 24 men and top 24 women will play 8 additional games, after the third round of qualifying. After this, for the Friday night round-robin match play, the field will be cut to eight players. The best three men and women then advance to the semifinals, following the Friday night match play.
Set to start next Thursday, the Best in the Desert off-road race, has loaded up on entries as the race approaches. The field looks to be very energized and competitive, with almost 150 entries lined up to take part in the newest edition of the race.
On October 14-15, the race will take place in Parker, AZ and will feature trucks, UTVs and cars in a new format. This year the lengthy distance race will actually take place over two days and cover 27 miles in a multi-race format, although previous races were either point-to-point or in a large loop.
In format, one of the most anticipated changes is the addition of time trials, which also means the addition of several new types of vehicles that previously could not take part. In the trials, Classic 1500 cars compete as do trick trucks, 1100 and 7200 classes. However, against the 7200 classes, this year the 1000 class will be competing head to head.
With the new additions, it has been decided that the prize will go to the fastest time regardless of class, although the $1000 Team Pole prize goes to the fastest time between the Trick Trucks and the 1500s. This should create some heated time trials and open up the competition. The question remains if the lower horsepower vehicles, against the traditional heavyweight champions can leverage their lighter weights.

Since last Sunday’s race at Kansas, the points battle in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship has tightened up, as just 101 points separating leader Jimmie Johnson from ninth-place Jeff Burton.
At Kansas, Johnson’s second-place finish coupled with Denny Hamlin’s 12th-place run, allowed Johnson to take an eight-point lead over Hamlin.
At Fontana, Johnson is usually pretty solid, as it is essentially the home track for the native of El Cajon, CA. Indeed, with five wins at Fontana, Johnson, leads all drivers.
Including victories in the last three fall events, the four-time defending series champion has finished no worse than 11th in the previous nine races at California. In February, he also won here. At California, during Johnson’s rookie season in 2002, came his first Sprint Cup victory.
Johnson said, “It’s always good to go home. There is a certain feeling about it. I won my first [Sprint Cup] race there. My 48th race [win] came there, and there are a lot of cool things about that racetrack for me.”
In distance, Sunday’s race will be 400 miles. At California, the series traditionally has run 500 miles. Only one race next year, on March 27 will be hosted on this track. For the Pepsi Max 400, forty-five teams are on the preliminary entry list.
When middleweight champ Sergio Martinez and Paul Williams clash Nov. 20, Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. will be the site of a rematch of one of the best boxing matches of 2009. Boxing betting experts will keep a keen eye on the bout.
The bout between Martinez and Williams is expected to be one of the biggest fights of the year. On HBO’s “World Championship Boxing“, it will be televised.
A news conference formally announcing the bout will be held Thursday in New York, said the promoters.
After months of on-and-off negotiations, comes the scheduled fight.
Williams’ promoter, Dan Goossen said, “It’s nice to get it completed. It’s not a matter of whose fault it is [that the fight took so long to make], it’s a matter that you have two of the most feared fighters in the world facing each other. It doesn’t just get made overnight. There’s a lot more to it. That’s what took time.”
Martinez’s promoter, Lou DiBella said, “Martinez is not afraid of anybody and we did the deal that HBO wanted us to do. My take on the fight it’s the best f—— fight the rest of the year. Period. It’s the best fight for fight fans and they don’t have to fork over $60 to watch it on pay-per-view.”
The Boardwalk Hall main arena will be configured to seat about 7,000 and this is where the fight will be held.
With both fighters knocked down in the first round and Williams winning a heavily disputed majority decision in the nontitle bout, they last met Dec. 5 last year.

This weekend, Arum says Margarito should sign the contract. On Monday from the Philippines, Pacquiao will fly into the United States, where he has been serving as a politician. He is expected to sign his contract then.
On the PGA golf tour this season, Tiger Woods has had the worst year of his career, and on Thursday, he attempted to start turning around his fortunes. Woods started strong at the Barclays golf tournament this weekend, fresh off his divorce to Elin Nordegren.
With a score of -6, the number one player in the world completed the first round. On Thursday, he shot the sixty-five and has him in a tie for the lead, somewhere he has not been often this year. With his divorce finalized, analysts have already begun their analysis that Woods may now be more focused.
Gaming Analyst Steve Schwartz said, “With everything that he (Woods) has been through in his personal life in the past year, it was expected that there would be some drop off in his level of play. As his life starts getting back to normal and his focus again turns to golf, we should see more scores like the one Woods posted today.”
To convince skeptics that the world’s best golfer is back, it will take more than one round. He would solidify his position on the US Ryder Cup team, if Woods goes on to win the Barclays and he also would swing odds makers back in his direction when it comes to determining future betting odds.
