Las Vegas is by far the Mecca, when it comes to casinos and gambling. With the hopes of hitting it big and soaking up all of its vices, people from all over the world ascend to Sin City. By 2012, now comes word that Singapore could rival or even top the Vegas Strip. It seems that travelers that are more international are opting to stay closer to home and it is Singapore that offers the same vices, especially for the ones from the Far East.

Developers are looking to upgrade accommodations and looking to expand and make services better, due to a huge increase of patrons and better than usual earnings by one of the two casinos in the city-state of Singapore, say the industry insiders. In Singapore, Genting Singapore is the top casino developer and they are stating that their Resorts World Sentosa showed very huge earnings during the second quarter.

For the second quarter, Genting Singapore claims that they have done nearly $1 Billion dollars in sales, the first in which statistics have been available. In February, Resorts World Sentosa opened and it was built at a cost of $4.4 Billion dollars. Anywhere from 75 to 90 percent of this revenue came from gambling, say the analysts.

Las Vegas Corps is the other casino in Singapore is Marina Bay Sands, which opened in April. Over $4 Billion Singapore, dollars have been garnered by both the casinos combined, since February.

A candidate for governor of the state of Minnesota is campaigning on the promise of bringing floating casinos to the Mississippi River, seeing dollar signs at every turn of Mark Twain’s Mississippi River. Many candidates are catering to gamblers and a state budget from their revenue, hard pressed to find legitimate sources of revenue for poverty-stricken states.

Rob Hahn is the latest candidate to promote gambling for the good of the state. He is running on the IP ticket and he is challenging Tom Horner. The area that he is projecting to legalize riverboat gambling to aide in generating revenue is that part of the Mississippi River that runs through St. Paul and Winona.

Rob Hahn claims that annually $600 million in revenue will be generated by his proposal, which is to be shared by the state, city and counties of Minnesota.

Hahn will make a speech at the state capitol on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 and he made his proposal to a meeting of the Red Wing business group.

From Rep, his proposal drew criticism. To make money for the state, Tim Kelly, Republican- Red Wing, who compared Hahn’s proposal to other proposals made to use gambling in casino games. Kelly opposes increasing gambling activities in the state as new gambling avenues would compete with the state’s Treasure Island, which is currently the biggest employer in the county.

On April26th – April 28th, 2010, in Calgary, Alberta, the Canadian Gaming Summit’s 3 day conference is scheduled to occur. This is their biggest yearly event and Calgary is hosting the event for the first time, for the Canadian gaming industry.

At this event people in the gaming industry from all over North America gather. Participants include casino owners, suppliers, industry players and people who are into internet betting.

Paul Burns, Vice President of the Canadian Gaming Commission, stated that there was a cross-section of people that are attracted to the event. Burns also said that, there are various non gaming amenities available that enhance the experience and the industry is growing. He gave spas, entertainment options, and hotels as examples.

For viewing, there will be more than 88 exhibits on display. To participate on the trade show floor, the Summit gives vendors opportunities. It also provides educational programs and social activities for employees in the gaming industry.

At the summit, most of the talk will be maximizing profits. To problem gamblers, there will be some attention drawn.

SafetyCheck will be an item on display by the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation. For gaming, this software filters websites. Because teenagers are more likely to visit the offshore websites for gaming, spokesman for the company, Margaret Mc-Gee, said that building a responsible gaming industry was their mandate.

At the event, Internet gaming will be a topic of discussion. Burns stated that on online gaming, 1 billion dollars is being spent by Canadians and all of the money is going to offshore companies.
