On the PGA golf tour this season, Tiger Woods has had the worst year of his career, and on Thursday, he attempted to start turning around his fortunes. Woods started strong at the Barclays golf tournament this weekend, fresh off his divorce to Elin Nordegren.

With a score of -6, the number one player in the world completed the first round. On Thursday, he shot the sixty-five and has him in a tie for the lead, somewhere he has not been often this year. With his divorce finalized, analysts have already begun their analysis that Woods may now be more focused.

Gaming Analyst Steve Schwartz said, “With everything that he (Woods) has been through in his personal life in the past year, it was expected that there would be some drop off in his level of play. As his life starts getting back to normal and his focus again turns to golf, we should see more scores like the one Woods posted today.”

To convince skeptics that the world’s best golfer is back, it will take more than one round. He would solidify his position on the US Ryder Cup team, if Woods goes on to win the Barclays and he also would swing odds makers back in his direction when it comes to determining future betting odds.

On the betting list week, Woods has remained near the top of the choices after week this season despite his poor showings. By betting on Woods, gamblers who have in the past feasted on sports books are now suffering along with the best golfer of a generation.

Last November, Woods ran his SUV into a tree on Thanksgiving night and he was surging towards Jack Nicklaus’ major titles record. Since then, for his continuous infidelity, Woods has been outed, and he has been a shell of his former self on the golf course.

Las Vegas is by far the Mecca, when it comes to casinos and gambling. With the hopes of hitting it big and soaking up all of its vices, people from all over the world ascend to Sin City. By 2012, now comes word that Singapore could rival or even top the Vegas Strip. It seems that travelers that are more international are opting to stay closer to home and it is Singapore that offers the same vices, especially for the ones from the Far East.

Developers are looking to upgrade accommodations and looking to expand and make services better, due to a huge increase of patrons and better than usual earnings by one of the two casinos in the city-state of Singapore, say the industry insiders. In Singapore, Genting Singapore is the top casino developer and they are stating that their Resorts World Sentosa showed very huge earnings during the second quarter.

For the second quarter, Genting Singapore claims that they have done nearly $1 Billion dollars in sales, the first in which statistics have been available. In February, Resorts World Sentosa opened and it was built at a cost of $4.4 Billion dollars. Anywhere from 75 to 90 percent of this revenue came from gambling, say the analysts.

Las Vegas Corps is the other casino in Singapore is Marina Bay Sands, which opened in April. Over $4 Billion Singapore, dollars have been garnered by both the casinos combined, since February.

Right-hander Brad Penny of St. Louis Cardinals is optimistic that he will pitch again this season, although he is not sure when exactly he will get the opportunity.

Since late May, Penny sidelined with an upper back injury. For about a week, he has played catch every day, but the team has yet to schedule a bullpen session.

Penny told the press, “Just playing catch. No changed status for me, at all. I’ll be able to tell you something when I find out.”

Than Penny, who is 3-4 with a 3.23 ERA in nine starts, Manager Tony La Russa seemed more enthusiastic. In the MLB offseason, Penny signed a one-year, $7.5 million free agent contract and he is hungry to return to a rotation bolstered by the trade deadline acquisition of Jake Westbrook.

Penny said, “I hope so. I’ll do everything I can. But like I said, I’ve got to test it. It’s not like when you throw on flat ground, just regular catch.”

Against the Houston Astros, the opener of a three-game series was the 61st game that Penny has missed this season. Since late May, the Cardinals have also been without Kyle Lohse, filling in with Jeff Suppanand Blake Hawksworth.

Start coming off forearm surgery on Thursday, Lohse is set to throw his third rehab with Double-A Springfield and could return next week.Penny was definitely not being counted out the rest of the season, said La Russa.

La Russa said, “Yeah, he’s making noise. He’s feeling pretty good, but he’s a lot of steps away. He definitely isn’t done for the season, in his mind or in ours.”

Stay tuned for more information about Brad’s injury and how it may effect the St. Louis Cardinals baseball betting odds.
